Who Works on a Film Set

"A whole host of specialists work on a film production – each person on set plays a very important role."
Have you ever wondered while reading movie end credits why so many people work on a film production? What do they actually do, what are they responsible for and what is their role on a film set?
Key Roles on a Film Set
Producer
Responsible for the entire production cycle. Supervises script work, organizes financing, manages the team. Ensures deadlines and budget are met. Without a producer, it would be difficult to make a film.
Director
Controls most aspects of filmmaking. Gives final meaning to the story. Works with actors, decides their positions and movements. The center of every film project.
Screenwriter
Every word spoken by an actor is carefully thought out. Shapes the sequence of events so scenes flow smoothly between each other. Without a script, no film can be made.
Director of Photography (DP)
Responsible for the visual aspects of the film. Selects lighting, cameras, lenses. Uses camera movement and framing to create atmosphere.
Editor
Organizes film material. Arranges shots into sequences, synchronizes cameras and sound. Editor's choices have huge impact on the final reception.
Production Designer
First person to translate the script into visual language. Selects locations, develops set designs, often supervises the storyboard.
Costume Designer
Costumes make time and place realistic, highlight character personality, show social status and the character's attitude to the world.
DIT (Digital Imaging Technician)
Responsible for copying data from camera cards. Creates backup copies of footage, checks file checksums. Uses tools like SHOTPUT PRO.
Every person on a film set has their unique and essential role. Professional production is teamwork, where every element affects the final result.
